The belt bucket elevator has been widely used in the vertical transport in all walks of life for its low power consumption, small floor space，good transportation capacity and convenient maintenance. In the actual use of the belt bucket elevator, we often encounter such problems: the belts are elongated with the time due to the increasing usage time of the bucket elevator and the belts which are often made of canvas or rubber；the straining device cannot play a role with its elongation exceeding the tension stroke of the bucket lifting straining device whereby the belt can not be tensioned ，which causing the clogging and small reduction of the bucket elevator. In this way it affected the normal production.

To solve the problems above we adopted a method : stretch the belt first by a specific tool；then remove the elongated part of the belt making it remain the original length. In this way, the straining device can tighten the belt.we called the above method the Belt Contracting.
The operation method of the Belt Contracting
(1) Adjust the bottom wheel in the base to the highest point so that the belt is relaxed to the maximum extent.
(2) Several hoppers are removed on both sides of the hopper belt joint (1~2 groups of bottomless hopper).
(3) The special tool for tightening the belt is connected with the belt through the connecting bolt of the belt (both the upper and lower hopper belts are connected).
(4) Rotate the bolts on the special tool alternately with a spanner.Both sides of the upper and lower belts could be carried out at the same time by two people. With the continuous rotation of the bolts, the belt is gradually tensioned and stretched.
(5) Disassemble the original joint of the belt when the belt is stretched to a certain extent,and connect the belt to a new belt, the redundant belt is cut with a knife or a saw.
(6)Loosen the nut of the special tool， remove the special tool, reassemble the hopper and adjust the position of the hopper belt.
